Twickenham Stadium - Case Study

The Client

Allianz Stadium in Twickenham is one of the world's most iconic rugby venues is the home of England Rugby and the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world, seating up to 82,000 people.

The client required remedial works on its LV5 fall barrier to maintain safety standards in line with previous condition reports. Working in collaboration with CBRE, Eurosafe was tasked with delivering a cost-effective, minimally disruptive solution while ensuring stadium operations remained unaffected.

The Challenges

The project presented several unique challenges:

  • Height & Access Constraints: The LV5 barrier was located in a high-risk area, requiring a specialist approach to carry out the works safely.

  • Multi-Trade Coordination: The works had to be scheduled and executed with minimal disruption to other trades and ongoing stadium operations.

  • Comprehensive Remedial Scope: The project involved multiple elements, including fabrication, corrosion treatment, and material replacement, necessitating a skilled and flexible workforce.

The Solutions

To overcome these challenges, Eurosafe UK deployed IRATA-certified rope access technicians, who utilised a combination of work positioning and work restraint techniques to safely access and carry out the works. The project scope included:

  • On-Site Bespoke Fabrication & Installation – Additional steel framework was designed and fabricated in situ to strengthen the existing barrier.

  • Sectional Wire Infill Replacement – Damaged or non-compliant sections of the wire infill were replaced to restore safety integrity.

  • Corrosion Treatment of Existing Steelwork – A targeted corrosion treatment plan was implemented to extend the lifespan of the existing framework.

  • Localised Replacement of Perspex Spill Barrier – Sections of the spill barrier were removed and replaced, ensuring continued functionality.

All works were carefully coordinated with CBRE, stadium management, and other trades to minimise disruption and maintain operational efficiency.

The Outcome

Through expert rope access methodologies and a carefully planned approach, Eurosafe delivered a cost-effective and efficient remedial solution for Twickenham Stadium’s LV5 barrier. The project was completed with minimal impact on stadium operations while ensuring compliance with safety standards and extending the barrier’s operational lifespan.

This project underscores Eurosafe's ability to provide specialist access solutions for high-risk environments, ensuring both safety and efficiency in complex working conditions.
