ELAM is a world-class 16-19 Academy which opened in one of the most deprived areas of the UK. ELAM offers young people everything that they will need to lead successful lives within the music, games design and film and television sectors – the Recognition, the Access and the Relevant skills to become ‘Industry Ready’.
The requirement
Given the high value of the equipment and the need for regular maintenance, ELAM needed a reliable and non-invasive fall protection system that would ensure the safety of maintenance personnel while preserving the integrity of the roof structure.
Our scope of work was to provide safe access at the roof level for:
Maintenance of photovoltaic panels
General roof access & maintenance
The solution
To address these needs, Eurosafe selected the MSA Latchways Constant Force® Post (CFP) cable system , a comprehensive rooftop fall protection solution. This system was chosen for several key reasons:
Compatibility: It is the only system approved by Kalzip, the supplier of the roof at ELAM.
Non-Penetrative Design: The roof-mounted cable system provided a non-penetrative solution, crucial for maintaining the roof's integrity and ensuring the photovoltaic panels were not compromised.
Flexibility: The system was designed to be flexible, accommodating the layout and specific requirements of the photovoltaic panels.
The MSA Latchways Constant Force® Post (CFP) cable system was installed to provide continuous protection. Key features of the implementation included:
Fall Restraint: The system was designed to keep operatives in a 'fall restraint' position at all times, ensuring they could access the roof area safely without the risk of falling.
Ease of Use: The cable system allowed for easy access and movement across the rooftop, making maintenance tasks more efficient and secure.
The outcome
The installation of the MSA Latchways CFP cable system at ELAM resulted in several positive outcomes:
Enhanced Safety: Maintenance personnel can now access the rooftop safely, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
Protected Assets: The non-penetrative design ensured that the photovoltaic panels and roof structure remained intact and undamaged.
Compliance: The system met all necessary safety standards and was approved by the roof supplier, Kalzip, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
